thoughts, words and actions

Had a discussion session recently. The topic was regarding thoughts, words and actions. The question was whether they should be consistent. The answer seems obvious but sometimes we did contradict ourselves. If we think closely, what we say and do actually reflects what we think and what our heart says. Some may argue the statement is not necessary true. What we do is not what we actually are. But being human as we are, the impression that we give others often, whether we like it or not, says a lot about our personality and character. For example, if you see a person is with his bunch of friends who are drunk and making a commotion, while he is still sober but is drinking, what would u think? The person might have very high alcohol tolerance hence would by the end of the day still remain sober but an outsider might not realize that. He might think that he will end up like his friends and will cause a scene. That will be a bad impression for others and possibly will mislead others too.
So I guess for whatever we say and do, we have to think beyond ourselves. Yes, by the end of the day, it is between us and God, as long as we ourselves know we are right. But in our everyday life, we are essentially portraying to others what we believe in also.
"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come! (Matthew 18: 6-7)
It’s difficult but I guess we can always try our best to be a good role model, a good witness to Christ J Gambate!!!
